Today I ate my favorite meal (super chicken burrito w/ black beans minus the sour cream, pictured above) from my favorite burrito spot, Taquería Cancún, here in San Francisco. I was trying to blog about it from my guyPhone as I went in on my burrito but the WordPress application really, really sucks. Anyway I thought I would rank and discuss my favorite burrito spots in SF.
#1: Taquería Cancún
Beyond solid. Mad flavor. The burritos they roll up are hot (literally) and contain the freshest and purest of ingredients. Cancún’s burritos really have to be experienced first-hand. Words can not describe the euphoria that one of these burritos can bring upon you.
#2: Taquería San José
They’ve got hands down the best al pastor on earth; it will make your week. Be careful though, get the al pastor on a taco, not a burrito. The first time I went there I got an al pastor burrito and I felt like I was going into cardiac arrest after eating half of it.
#3: La Taquería
La Taquería’s burritos really get down to business, and I’m all about that. All you get is meat, beans, some avocado, and some salsa fresca. A few quality and essential ingredients go a long way.
#4: Pancho Villa
I know a lot of people hate on Pancho Villa place because it has a security guard, but their burritos are BOMB. I don’t know what they do to the carné asada, but for some reason it tastes different then any other carné asada I’ve ever had…in a very good way. Plus, vegans Randy Randall and Dean Spunt of No Age are really into the tofu options at Pancho Villa.
#5: El Tonayense
I think SAUCY is the only way El Tonayense’s burritos can be described. They’ve got damn juicy burritos that some how aren’t soggy and filled with most saucy flavor ever. Seriously, El Tonayense’s burritos have flavor unlike the flavor of any other burritos I’ve ever had. El Tonayense is also a taco truck, which for some reason gives them more credibility in my book.
Here’s a little rendition of “Yellow Submarine” by the great Mexican folk artist, Mustang, in honor of the all-mighty burrito.
Sweaty Palms is also available in physical form, on CD. We’ve had some techinical difficulities getting the Cut Division online store running, so until then, if you’d like a copy, email us at ctdvsn@gmail.com. Each CD is $7 + shipping.
My good friend Sam Skelton showed me the trailer for a recently released documentary examining the world of black metal and its Scandinavian origins, entitled Until The Light Takes Us. I’m pretty new to black metal and all, but regardless, this movie looks pretty captivating. It’s hard to believe that a pretty specific genre of music can motivate church burnings and mass murder. Maybe it’s just because the maximum prison sentence in Norway is 21 years, so people just do what they want. Surprisingly, black metal is nowhere near as popular in Norway as it is here. I was recently speaking with No Age’s sound guy, Scott, about his encounters with the black metal world while he was in Norway while on tour with No Age. Scott said he asked around in Norway where all the metalheads were, but the natives told him not too many people were in to it. Anyways…check out the trailer for Until The Light Takes Us below. I was looking through Aquarius Record’s new arrival list (if you don’t know what this is, I recommend you go to aquariusrecords.org and subscribe immediately) and I came across King Kong Ding Dong’s new album, Youth Culture Index, listed as album of the week. I checked out a few of their tracks and was seriously blown away. These guys are incredible. I hate to play the comparison game, but because I really want everyone to listen to them, I will throw a couple big names out there: Animal Collective and Atlas Sound. If you are at all into these bands, then you need to listen to King Kong Ding Dong. Don’t let the name throw you off, these dudes are the real deal, and if you still need some persuasion, I put a link to a free download of Youth Culture Index’s lead off track, “Jample.” You can download the entire album for free on their website (http://www.kingkongdingdong.net/youth-culture-index), or you can buy the CD on the same site. The CD comes in a hand silkscreened cover and is totally worth the $7 it costs.
Lately I’ve been trying to immerse myself in to the world of old school black metal, not quite as old school as Hell Hammer, but you know, Mayhem, Dark Throne…? There’s this tiny but awesome record shop here in San Francisco called Shaxul Records that I’ve been going to get up on my metal. The dude who runs it knows everything there is to know about metal and he always has great recommendations. If you’re in San Francisco, or if you live here and you’re in to metal, or want to get in to it, hit up Shaxul.
One of the classic albums I bought there was A Blaze In The Northern Sky by Dark Throne, featuring “In The Shadow Of The Horns.” Total classic.
I think we’re going to kick off a new thing here at Cut Division called YouTube Mondays. I’m genuinely obsessed with YouTube, so I figure I’ll spread the love. Make sure the Cut Division blog is your go-to spot for funny YouTube videos on Mondays!
I first started looking in to The Partysquad after hearing Diplo play their track “Pull Up” time and time again. I think their music is best described as a mixture of baile funk, dutch house, and baltimore club. Pretty innovative. I FINALLY came across some of their stuff at 320kbps that I can FINALLY play out, so I though I’d share the love.
EDIT: ‘Sta Stil Dan pt. 2′ is featured in Switch’s hour of Major Lazer’s Essential Mix. It’s listed as ‘Fuckin’ House’ by White Label.
My childhood pal Brookah has been coming up in Chicago’s club scene recently, playing for dudes like Willy Joy and playing alongside dudes like AC Slater and Million $ Mano. He also started the infamous Squeegie Sounds with a few of his Chi-town buddies. If you haven’t hit up Squeegie, I highly recommend you do. They’ve got some MAJOR tunes and interviews up on there…and they’re really consistent writers, unlike some of us at Cut Division…hehe.
I’ve posted one of his recent mixes up here before, but he has recently dropped a new mix entitled Brookah’s “Bullet Tooth Tony” Mix. Get at it!

I came across these dudes Ganglians thanks to our homies over at the Mishka Bloglin. They were on tour opening for Waaves earlier this year which struck me as strange…really just because they are so much better than Waaves. Check em out, drop us comment. Who’s better?
